An article from Wired briefly sums up a "security threat." A downloadable file, which is a combination of MySpace photos from both private and public users, was downloaded by more people this weekend than Sweeney Todd, or other popular new movies. Bottom line: If it's on the Internet, it's accessible.

One step further, some institutions and companies are utilizing these private information to send advertisement, voting brochures to us everywhere, any ideas how this might be solved?
This is ONE of the reasons why I don't participate in social networking sites...
No matter how much you try to keep things private there's always going to be someone/something that gets to you that you don't want to have anything to do with.
The fact that this MySpace download exceeded Sweeney Todd in popularity really makes a statement about technology in relation to culture. Social networking sites can set the agenda for what is popular and entertaining. And to answer Fan's question, I think the only way to ensure that we cannot be reached by companies who utilize our info to send us things is to not list our email addresses, mailing addresses, and phone numbers on networking sites or blogs.
