How do the characteristics of technology affect the experience (when the content stays the same)?

Some media technology extends certain senses, while others suppress certain senses. For instance (using the example he gave in class), what's the differences between watching a movie in a theatre vs. a home dvd vs. on an ipod?

I think the use context also applies as well. viewing the same webpage is a little different on a laptop than on a desktop because you've got more freedom in where you can work.
